Introducing the dense and deep, bright and lively crimson-red 2017 Penfolds Grange.
The nose has rampant scents derived from the kitchen and garden. Take your pick: venison carpaccio with a sweet balsamic reduction; a salsa verde with an emphasis on the parsley and olive oil; wafts of sticky rice pudding, apricot pip – or a subtle sweet and spiced sandalwood, ground cumin.
The palate features a wave of flavours with understated power and charm. The swell builds and this drop is laden with shiraz fruits, dark chocolate and oak nuances. In the mouth, it feels creamy and velvety with tight tannins that create a dense coating with a ‘rusty’ edge.

“… It’s all here: black fruits of every kind, licorice, dark chocolate, coffee bean, coal dust, even a suggestion of fruit-mince spice. A wall of Grange tannins hold back its immense force, as finely engineered as ever. The finish holds motionless for minutes, with a stature and presence possessed only by Grange, yet at every moment upholding statuesque poise, integrity, even tang in this cooler season.”
About Penfolds Grange
Grange is arguably Australia’s most famous wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Grange boasts an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951 and clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia.
Penfolds Grange displays fully-ripe, intensely-flavoured and textured Shiraz grapes in combination with new American oak. The result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world’s great wines. The Grange style is the original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy.
