The 2019 Penfolds Bin 407 release is a deep, lively red that is instantly cabernet on the nose. It has exposure to fragrant violet, lavender, blue fruits and a waft of red apple blossom. But it doesn’t end there!
Baked delights can be smelled from Danish pastry to rye bread crust, as well as a Mediterranean ratatouille laced with thyme, oregano and pulped olive.
The medium-bodied palate is the complete package. A juicy red currant jelly, dark plum and fresh rhubarb are balanced by the ‘just right’ amount of acidity – lively and lifted from lip-contact to sate ingestion.
There are integrated, polished-graphite tannins and a seamlessly concealed oak taste that melds well with the fruit.

“… this beauty seduces from the first whiff. Showing note-perfect varietal aromas, with a breeze of ripe purple fruit over fresh, leafy herbs and rich red earth, the perfume is full and persistent. The entry is sharp and arresting, with fruit purity on point and channelled down the right corridors by supple tannins and a clean acid seam. It shows exemplary balance through to the long finish.”
