PENFOLDS BIN 138 2015

“A good old-fashioned Barossa Valley ‘Dry Red’ style.”

With its last tasting by the winemaker in 2017, this deep crimson red comes straight from Penfolds Barossa Valley vines, some over 100 years old. The nose has hints of charred smoky meats, a whiff of floral, blackberry pastille and fruit drops.

Description

With its last tasting by the winemaker in 2017, this deep crimson red comes straight from Penfolds Barossa Valley vines, some over 100 years old. The nose has hints of charred smoky meats, a whiff of floral, blackberry pastille and fruit drops.

On the palate, it is unashamedly ‘dry-reddish’ – or as Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago overhead, “a good old-fashioned Barossa Valley ‘Dry Red’ style.”  With a rust earthiness coupled with an assortment of fruits including dates, fresh figs and melon the best drinking is between now and 2023.

“Spoils of the Barossa! Spoilt by the Barossa! Yet again. Older vineyards, getting older…”

“When something works, why change?”

96-James Halliday, The Wine Companion

“…  Salt of the Barossa earth, with no airs or graces, but calmly asserting its lineage from the word go and through to the aftertaste. I particularly like the liquorice and edgy/smoky charcuterie nuances that flow easily across the palate.”
