Last tasted in 2013, this luscious red has entered its peak drinking age. At that time the wine’s flavours were marked as ‘yet to completely unfurl.’ Now, 10 years later, this wine has left its developmental phase, ageing into a magenta coloured, full-bodied flavour experience.
This Rhone Red Blend is brimming with red and black fruit aromas, the tart raspberry and cherry flavours are softened by rounded tannins and chocolatey oaky notes.
Harvested from the old vines of the Barossa Valley, this Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro hails from the excellent vintage of 2012, which was defined by impressive flavour development – without inflated baumes, even ripening and great results for some quality markers including colour, tannin profile, fruit concentration and flavour depth.
This is a wine that has already done the hard yards and it ready to drink now.
“Traditional Barossa varietals bask in the halo of the terrific 2012 vintage.”
“The 21st release of this Penfolds Barossa Valley blend – unshakably true to its region/varietal-mix/style.”
