New to wine?

The Wine God Club is passionate about educating its disciples about the merits of a great drop and that’s what our newsletters and descriptions are all about.

So, what’s in a wine?

First there’s the colour, nose and palate – and that goes beyond red, white or rosé categories. Some tasting notes comment on the hue, darkness or light. The nose is next. Maybe the wine is bursting with fruit flavours or brings to mind meaty dishes from your youth or place of origins.

The palate? How does it feel in your mouth? Perhaps you can taste the tannins from the wine barrels and feel a subtle after-taste after an initial burst of flavour.

Then, there’s the vintage. This simply means the year in which the grapes were harvested. Perhaps it was unseasonably hot or rainy or cooler.

The grape? The variety of grapes make the wine. Whether its a Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Viognier or a blend. The wine is only as good as the grape from which it comes.

And of course, there’s the grape growing and winemaking regions. And are we spoiled for choice in Australia. Perhaps you prefer your drop from Western Australia’s Margaret River, South Australia’s Barossa Valley, the cooler climates around Canberra or New South Wales’ Hunter Valley?
